On the redistribution of prize money

29 September 2022

Another good night at the Elm Tree with 15 teams, good scoring all round and top scores of 36 and 34.

Also, it was an opportunity to address the new Government’s new, old policy – a return to supply-side “Voodoo” economics.

I therefore commissioned a report by the OBR into a proposal to give all the Elm Tree prize money to the team finishing first in order to let it trickle down very slowly to everyone else.

The report has however confirmed that such an approach is absolute tosh, could well tip the economy further into recession, and the pound into free fall against a basket of South Pacific Island currencies, and will lead to teams having to provide their own pens and paper and ultimately questions. I have therefore reconfirmed the Elm Tree Quiz’s commitment to continue to play its small part in the regulated redistribution of wealth with prizes for at least first, second, third and second last.

HM Treasury has been asked for comment.

Keep smiling

All the best
